The second Zimbabwe National HIV and AIDS Conference being held in Harare at Celebration Centre under the theme “ Elimination of New HIV Infection in Children Keeping Mothers Alive” was officially opened by H.E President Mugabe yesterday. The conference which runs from the 5th – 8th of September 2011 is being attended by senior government officials, AIDS Service Organizations from the country’s ten provinces, traditional Chiefs and members of the public.
Officially opening the conference President Mugabe urged men to participate in HIV and AIDS programmes, “The role of men in society is unquestionable. It is for this reason that men should take their place in HIV response, both for their own health as well as in support of women and children”. The President also took a swipe at senior government officials engaging in risk sexual behaviours. “I know of cases of men, who even though they are taking ARVs are running from one woman to the other. These are not men l know because of my extended family but because of my being Head of Government”.
